A Day at the Hospital

Well, I went in to the cancer center last Friday to find out whether or not I was going to get my "device" taken out. The answer was no and the appt turned into a pre-op. Blood, weight (241 lbs.) height (5'7), lungs, heart etc. Friday the 17th at 7:20a the date to have another biopsy and to take out and replace my device. I was not happy.

I made my work arrangements and P decided to go with me. We arrived at the hospital for check in at 5:45a and they immediately took me up stairs to change and start me on my IV. The checked my blood sugar and took blood for my blood test. Then P was allowed to hang out in my room with me until I was wheeled into surgery. I met my surgeon, cancer doctor(again), her assistant, 2 nurses and my anesthesiologist. P and I said good-bye and I was walked back to operating room 1. I met everyone again- this time in surgical masks. I jumped up onto the table and splayed my legs and arms out in the appropriate positions and area of the table. They shot my IV up with some atheistic, which stung a bit, then I was out.

An hour later I woke up to the most excruciating pain I've ever felt. I cried out for P and then just cried. A nurse came up and asked if I was in pain, I said yes and on a scale of 1-10 and 10 being unbearable, I yelled that it was an 8!! She shot up my IV with something and I fell into a calm. Sometime within that calm, I was wheeled back to my room and P was there. I usually have an easy time coming out of anesthesia, but this time was different. I felt dizzy and nauseated and I felt a sharp, stabbing pain every once in a while. P told one of the nurse's that I was in pain and she was going to give me something but I was so nauseated. She gave me something for the nausea then for the pain. Another nurse came in and tried to get me into a chair, but I wanted to change my pad and underwear. As soon as I stood up a waterfall of blood poured out of me, through my hospital pants and onto the floor. I told the nurse to grab me some towels and I'd grab my underwear and pad. She did and once I was able to clean up a bit I sat in my chair. A nurse came in and cleaned up the floor and in a few minutes I was lead into the bathroom to try and clean my self up. I had blood caked on my legs, and a bit on my hands. I washed up and managed to splash some water on my face, to hopefully clear up the dizziness I was feeling. After about an hour of struggling to wake up, P was read the Do's and Don't of out patient surgery and was allowed to take me home.

Neither one of us had eaten since the night before and we were both starving so P decided to stop for some take out at the Olive Garden. Soup, Salad, Breadsticks and Alfredo Pizza we were on our way to the house. We sat in front of the fire eating and when our bellies were full, we fell asleep until about 4p. We ate some more, slept some more until yeasterday when P felt it was ok to go home.
I feel ok. More or less like I had sex with a very well endowed man and my back hurts, other than that I feel ok. I will hear next week about the results of the biopsy and will need to wait until May to have the device taken out-most likely.
